A sophisticated local food mapping system.

A note from the client...

“Foodlink Waterloo Region approached Tilted Pixel with an intriguing project—a simple task really. We wanted Matt Inglot and his team to design an interactive website that would provide consumers with every piece of information regarding local food imaginable. On top of that, the site needed to provide an intuitive product directory that reflected both the seasonality and availability of the local harvest and to also have the ability to easily find fresh healthy food as close to home as possible in a variety of retail formats. In short, the website was expected to inspire an entire community to “Buy Local! Buy Fresh!”

This was a project that might have daunted other developers. Especially since Foodlink is a small non-profit serving local farmers –not a larger company with resources to burn. Tilted Pixel seemed keen to apply their experience and accepted the challenge with enthusiasm. The completed product was more than just a social marketing and educational website. Tilted Pixel was able to craft a virtual food community whereby consumers have access to the most up-to-date market information and have the opportunity to learn about their food and the farmers that produce it at the same time.

While the innovative mapping component is by far the most technically advanced feature of the site, its the welcoming feel and easy flow of information at the users fingertips that makes foodlink.ca special. Throughout the design phase, Tilted Pixel helped us focus on what the requirements were and how to best achieve them with a set budget. Tilted Pixel wasn’t selling “us a website”. Over the course of the project it felt like they’d become a partner in our vision. Matt kept us on track, keeping the priority on function and simplicity not “bells and whistles”. (although the site has some of those too!) What’s not noticeable to the visitor, is the ease in which Foodlink can update and manage content, advertising and special listings. Content management is often an afterthought to small businesses and organizations.

In all, Foodlink’s experience with Tilted Pixel as a partner was superb. Matt’s innovative thinking led to an amazing product. Traffic to our new site has grown instantaneously and more importantly customers are staying there longer. Tilted Pixel’s entire team was responsive, flexible and professional. Foodlink received exceptional support and value for our investment. If you have an idea that needs to be put in motion we’d strongly recommend giving Matt Inglot and the Tilted Pixel team a call.”
